The 2026 Grand Slam season ended on 13 September in New York, and it is hard to fit into a single formula. Among the men, three players shared the four tournaments: Carlos Alcaraz won the Australian Open and completed the career Grand Slam, Alexander Zverev took the French Open and the US Open, and Jannik Sinner defended his Wimbledon title. Zverev also reached three of the four finals, while the leading players of recent seasons dropped out of the draw one by one through injury. Among the women, six different players contested the four finals, and only Elena Rybakina won twice in the season. Below are all the Grand Slam winners 2026 in order, the finals, and what this season changed in tennis.
What is the Grand Slam in tennis and which tournaments are part of it
The Grand Slam is the four biggest tournaments of the tennis year: the Australian Open in Melbourne, the French Open (Roland Garros) in Paris, Wimbledon in London and the US Open in New York. They are also known as the majors. The name came from bridge, where a ‘grand slam’ means taking every trick in a single deal; it was first applied to tennis in 1933, when the Australian Jack Crawford won three of the four tournaments and came within one match of a full set.
The majors have a fixed calendar; only the dates change. The 2026 Grand Slam tournaments took place as follows:
- Australian Open — 18 January – 1 February, hard court, Melbourne;
- French Open — 24 May – 7 June, clay, Paris;
- Wimbledon — 29 June – 12 July, grass, London;
- US Open — 30 August – 13 September, hard court, New York.
Men play best of five sets at the majors, women best of three. A win at any of the four tournaments brings 2000 ranking points; we broke down how they add up to a place in the standings in our piece on the ATP and WTA rankings.
Grand Slam winners 2026: the full list of champions
- Australian Open 2026: Carlos Alcaraz and Elena Rybakina;
- French Open 2026: Alexander Zverev and Mirra Andreeva;
- Wimbledon 2026: Jannik Sinner and Linda Nosková;
- US Open 2026: Alexander Zverev and Elena Rybakina.
So the question of who won the 2026 Grand Slam has no single answer: nobody took all four tournaments in the season. Zverev and Rybakina each won two titles.
Australian Open 2026 winner: Alcaraz completed the career Grand Slam
Men: Alcaraz — Djokovic
Carlos Alcaraz arrived at the 2026 Australian Open with six majors but without an Australian title. On 1 February he beat Novak Djokovic in the final — 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 — and became the ninth man in history to complete the career Grand Slam, and the youngest of them: he was 22 years and 272 days old. It was his seventh Grand Slam title.
For Djokovic the defeat was also historic, only in the other direction: he had never lost an Australian Open final before, with a record of 10-0. At 38 years and 255 days he became the oldest finalist in the tournament’s history in Melbourne, and along the way he beat the two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals. Alcaraz’s semi-final against Alexander Zverev lasted 5 hours 27 minutes — the longest semi-final in Australian Open history.
Women: Rybakina — Sabalenka
The women’s final on 31 January repeated the 2023 final, but with the opposite result: Elena Rybakina beat the world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka — 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Both reached the final without dropping a set; that had not happened at a Grand Slam since Wimbledon 2008, where the Williams sisters met in the final. For Rybakina it was her second major after Wimbledon 2022, for Sabalenka her fourth consecutive final in Melbourne.
French Open 2026 winner: Zverev and Andreeva won their first majors
Men: Zverev — Cobolli
The clay-court tournament lost its favourites even before the start and in the first week. Alcaraz, the two-time defending champion, withdrew with a wrist injury. Sinner arrived in Paris on a run of 30 straight wins — the best of his career — and in the second round led Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, ranked 56th, by two sets and 5-1 in the third. Then the Italian was apparently struck by cramp: he failed to serve out the match twice, took a medical timeout, and the Argentinian won 18 of the last 20 games — 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1. In the third round the 19-year-old João Fonseca knocked out Djokovic, even though the Serb led 2-0 in sets.
In such a draw, experience decided a great deal. On 7 June the second seed Zverev beat the Grand Slam final debutant Flavio Cobolli — 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1 in 4 hours 16 minutes. Before that the German had lost three major finals: the 2020 US Open to Dominic Thiem, the 2024 French Open to Alcaraz and the 2025 Australian Open to Sinner. Four years earlier, on the same court, he tore ankle ligaments in the semi-final against Rafael Nadal and underwent surgery. Now Zverev is the first German with a title in Paris since Henner Henkel in 1937 and the first German major winner since Boris Becker at the 1996 Australian Open.
Women: Andreeva — Chwalińska
On 6 June Mirra Andreeva won her first Grand Slam title, thrashing the Polish qualifier Maja Chwalińska in the final — 6-3, 6-2. The match began with long rallies in the wind, but from 2-3 in the first set Andreeva won ten games in a row. At 19 years and 39 days she became the youngest French Open champion since Monica Seles in 1992. Chwalińska, the world No 114, became the lowest-ranked finalist in the history of the Paris tournament and was set to rise to 21st afterwards.
Wimbledon 2026 winner: Sinner defended his title, Nosková won an all-Czech final
Men: Sinner — Zverev
Alcaraz also missed Wimbledon with the same right wrist problem, and Sinner returned to top form. On 12 July he lost the first set of the final to Zverev on a tie-break, but then won three sets in a row: 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-4 in 3 hours 46 minutes. It was his second Wimbledon in a row and his fifth major title. Sinner hit 58 winners with 25 unforced errors and beat Zverev for the tenth match in a row. The German, at 29 years and 81 days, became the oldest player in the Open Era to reach the finals of all four Grand Slam tournaments.
‘Congratulations to Jannik. He showed once again why he is the best player in the world,’ Zverev said at the ceremony.
Women: Nosková — Muchová
The final on 11 July brought two Czechs together at a Grand Slam for the first time in the professional era. The ninth seed Linda Nosková beat the tenth seed Karolína Muchová — 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, although she led 5-2 in the second set and squandered five match points. Nosková is 21, the youngest Wimbledon champion since Petra Kvitová in 2011 and the third Czech winner of the tournament in four years after Markéta Vondroušová (2023) and Barbora Krejčíková (2024). For Muchová it was her second lost major final after the 2023 French Open.
US Open 2026 winner: Zverev’s second title, Rybakina the world No 1
Men: Zverev — Shelton
On 21 August Sinner withdrew from the US Open with a right knee injury — the first Grand Slam he had missed since 2019. Alcaraz returned after a four-month break but lost to Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals on a fifth-set tie-break. The match finished at 3:33 am New York time — no match at the US Open had ever ended so late.
On 13 September the top seed Zverev beat Shelton in the final — 6-3, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-2 — and won his second major in three months. Shelton, the eighth seed, was playing his first Grand Slam final and was trying to become the first American with a US Open title since Andy Roddick in 2003. Zverev’s win was worth 5.5 million dollars.
Women: Rybakina — Sabalenka
On 12 September Rybakina beat Sabalenka in a Grand Slam final for the second time in the season — 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Sabalenka was chasing a third consecutive US Open title and had won 19 matches in a row in New York before the final; in the final she racked up 35 unforced errors. For Rybakina the US Open was her third major title: she became the sixth player since 1988 to win both hard-court Grand Slam tournaments in a single season, and rose to world No 1 in the WTA rankings for the first time — the first player from Kazakhstan to do so. That ended Sabalenka’s 99-week run at the top, and the 2026 Grand Slam was her first without a title since 2022.
Career Grand Slam tennis winners: who has one
The career Grand Slam means winning all four majors over a career, not necessarily in one year. In men’s singles nine players have completed it: Fred Perry, Don Budge, Roy Emerson, Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and now Carlos Alcaraz. Among the women there are ten names on that list — from Maureen Connolly to Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.
The calendar Grand Slam, meaning all four titles in one season, is even rarer: among the men it was won by Budge (1938) and Laver (1962 and 1969), among the women by Connolly (1953), Margaret Court (1970) and Steffi Graf (1988). The record for the most titles in men’s singles is 24, held by Djokovic. After the 2026 Grand Slam, Sinner and Rybakina are closest to the career Grand Slam: both need only the French Open.
What the 2026 Grand Slam left behind
- Among the men, three players shared the majors: Alcaraz, Zverev (twice) and Sinner. Zverev, for years labelled ‘the best without a major’, ended that talk by the end of the summer with two titles.
- Injuries decided as much as form: Alcaraz missed two majors with his wrist, Sinner the US Open with his knee. We looked in detail at how this affected their rivalry in our piece on Sinner and Alcaraz.
- Among the women, Rybakina was the leading figure of the year — two titles and the No 1 ranking; Andreeva and Nosková won their first majors, and Chwalińska’s run was a reminder that the WTA draw remains the most open in tennis.
